Foster homes needed!
Have you ever considered opening your home to help out a rescue dog? It is very rewarding and you are helping to save lives! Our foster dogs are not kept in kennels, but in actual homes. Please contact us if you are interested in fostering! If you are unsure, please read this poem...
Donations needed!
We have several dogs in rescue right now that have required extensive veterinary care. For example, both Delta & Domino who both came to rescue from the Memphis Animal Shelter are currently undergoing heartworm treatments. You can see them on our "On Hold" page. To help, you can make a tax-deductible donation via our ChipIn link (which accepts paypal donations) on the right, or you can make a direct PayPal donation to freshstartsheltierescue@yahoo.com. Additionally, you can contact Kim to get a physical address to send a donation to as well.
We, and the rescues, thank you in advance for anything you can send!
For images of the calendar, see the slideshow below after the break.
2/7/10 - Just in! A tri-color male, just turned 4 years old in January. He was rescued from a puppy mill situation, and he is going to have to learn how life is outside the mill. He doesn't appear to bothered by it though - he is very sweet and friendly. He walked right up to his foster mom and even put his paws on her lap to get petted! He loves to run and play in the yard, and likes to be around other dogs. Trevor likes to prance around the yard, and is a happy dog.
We do not know if he is housebroken yet, but we are assuming he is not and his foster mom will work with him on that. He rides very well in a car, and does not get car sick or cry/bark. Trevor is not neutered, but will be before he can be adopted.
Jordan is a 6-8 month old bi-blue male. He is still a puppy, and a little oversized at approximately 24 lbs. He is very playful and loves other dogs! Jordan came from a puppy mill so he is working on trusting people but he's a young, fun loving boy who will really have a happy and fun life. Please consider adopting this wonderful boy!!
To see a quick video of Jordan playing with his foster "brothers" - Samson and Pogo, click follow the following link. He's so playful!!
2/6/10 - Just in! We have a new sable male - about a year or so old - who was turned into the a nearby shelter. He has been neutered and is heartworm negative. We just got him, so we are going to evaluate him and will update the website shortly. He seems to be very friendly, wagging his tail at everyone and loved being petted. He was walking up to people in the shelter, and was happy to see everyone. When we took him outside, he did his "business" and was not bothered by any of the noises outside (cars driving by, doors slamming, etc.).
Visit this page for more updates!!! Pictures will be posted soon.
Available - Beau is a young male Sheltie mix that has a sad story. His 'dad' had a stroke and was taken to the hospital. Beau was left alone in the backyard for over 2 months. When the utilities were shut off, the animal shelter was called and Beau was picked up. The shelter gave him a bath after a few days and put him in an outside pen to dry. When a volunteer came into get him, the gate was left open and he escaped. After 10 days he was discovered back in his old backyard! The shelter picked him up and turned him into rescue. Unfortunately, Beau was hit by a car while on his 10 day excursion, and had surgery to repair his hip. He is fully recovered and will lead a normal, active life!
Beau is well mannered, and is doing better on his socialization. He would do best in a quiet home, where he can be your best friend. He is on the smaller side, and is crate trained.
Beau has had a rough go of it the last few months, but he's not let that interfere with his ability to love and be positive in life! How can you not fall for this sweet boy - he is just precious! Beau is ready for you to adopt and make a part of your family!
William is an approximately 2 year old sable male. He came from the same puppymill seizure as Chase (click here for the news story and there is also a video on the site). He is working on socialization, and is attending weekly obedience classes to learn how to live in the "real" world outside the puppy mill. Once William is properly socialized, he will be available for adoption
William seems to prefer men - he is doing really well at his foster dad's house, and is actually starting to play inside! He should go to a home with other dogs, since he likes to run and play. He would do best in a family that understands shy Shelties, and is willing to continue working with him to overcome his shyness. He is a very sweet boy, and wants to be brave but just isn't quite sure how. With the right situation, he'll do very well and be a loving companion!
